Most parties are about turning up the energy; this one involves dialing it down. Relaxing music, such as cool jazz or ambient New Age, can help set the right tone.A Beautiful Menu
Promote beauty inside and out with vitamin-packed snacks and light dishes that your guests will love. Add delicious flavor and bright colors to the proceedings with a selection of juices, such as Beet, Apple, and Mint Juice, Grapefruit, Carrot, and Ginger Juice, and Green Juice. For a satisfying entree with a healthy twist, try Caesar Salad with Spicy Shrimp.Favors That Pamper

For a skin-softening facial treatment by spa owner Susan Ciminelli, mix plain yogurt, honey, and crushed bee pollen. "The lactic acid in milk softens the skin and the proteins nourish the surface layer of skin," she says. - Remove Old Nail Polish
Choose an acetone-free remover (which is gentler) to get rid of all traces of your last pedicure.
Shop Removers: - Soak Your Feet
The perfect time for a pedicure is after a bath or shower, but you can soften your skin in five minutes in a pinch. Use warm (not hot) water, and be sure to pat dry before the next step. - Remove Dead Skin
This is when the ladies at the corner nail salon take out one of those scary razor blades and the spa ladies rub expensive scrubs on your feet. We like to use both a foot scrubber (such as a pumice stone) and an exfoliating rub. Pay special attention to rough heels and rinse away sloughed-off skin when done.
Shop for a Scrub:Buy a New - Clip and Shape Nails
Long toenails are creepy, so get yours back to a respectable length with a pair of clippers and a file.
Shop Toenail Clippers: - Tackle Your Cuticles
By this, we mean for you to reach for one of those angled wooden tools and push overgrown cuticles back into place. - Trim Excess Skin
Perhaps the most important step, you'll need a cuticle trimmer or nail "nipper" to help you remove dead, rough skin from all around your nails. Be careful - these tools are sharp!
Shop for a Nail Nipper: - Moisturize
Slather on a coat of rich moisturizer and give your feet a mini-massage. Wipe any lotion off your nails with a before applying polish. - Polish
Choose a fab nail color and apply two even coats to each nail.
Tips:
- Use cotton pads - not cotton balls - for tidier polish removal, as the balls tend to shred on stubborn polish.
- When filing, move from each edge to the center (don't zig-zag a nail file back and forth) and don't file the sides of your nails.
- Use a Q-tip with nail polish remover to clean up any excess polish.
What You Need
- Polish Remover & Cotton Pads
- Nail Clippers & File
- Nail/Cuticle Nipper
- Cuticle Pusher
- Pumice Stone & Exfoliating Scrub
- Moisturizer
- Nail Polish

Beat the egg yolk or egg white in a small bowl. If you want both the tightening and moisturizing effect, beat the whole egg until it is well combined but not frothy. Hand beating is better than using a mixer or egg-beater. Add 1 tsp. honey and 1/4 tsp. of vinegar. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

2
Add one drop of lavender essential oil to the mixture for dry skin, one drop of bergamot essential oil for normal to oily skin. Combine well with the egg-honey mixture, making sure the oil is incorporated.

Homemade Mango Mud Facial Mask
This mango “mud” mask is a great way to get spa quality facial on a really tight
budget. While the fruit is slightly astringent, the combined action of oats, almonds

powdered oats.

The expensive facial treatments
you might receive in a spa sometimes involve simple ingredients you'd
find in any kitchen. Daring to smear what should be food on your face,
though, may require a trustworthy recipe before you can get yourself
going. The banana itself is an astringent, while oatmeal is also an
astringent and helps exfoliate your skin. Honey, if included, conditions
and moisturizes your skin, while yogurt or sour cream helps the honey
blend in with the banana.
Things You'll Need
- 1 small to medium banana
- Fork
- Small, shallow bowl
- 1 tbsp. honey (optional)
- 2 tbsp. yogurt or sour cream (optional)
- 1/4 to 1/3 cup oatmeal
- Coffee grinder
Step 1
Peel the banana and place it in a small, shallow bowl. Use a fork to mash the banana to a smooth consistency.
Step 2
Mix 1 tbsp. honey and 2 tbsp. yogurt or sour cream in with the banana, if so desired. These ingredients are optional.
Step 3
Fill the coffee grinder with
oatmeal and grind this to a fine powder. Repeat as needed until you have
1/4 to 1/3-cup of finely ground oatmeal. How much oatmeal you will need
depends on the size of the banana you used to form the base of the
mask.
Step 4
Mix the finely ground oatmeal
in with the banana (and honey and yogurt or sour cream, if included) a
bit at a time until it reaches a creamy, pasty consistency.
Step 5
Apply the mask to your face.
Leave it in place for up to 20 minutes, then rinse it off with cool
water or wipe it off with a damp washcloth. Rinse your skin with warm
water and pat dry.

Whether you are new to massage or an experienced spa-goer, there are things you can do get the most from your massage.
* Don't eat a heavy meal or drink alcohol before a massage session.
* Arrive well in advance of your appointment. It gives you time to check in and relax before your spa treatment. If you get there five minutes before, you might miss some of your treatment time. And if you have rushed, it will take longer to relax.
* Take advantage of the sauna, steam bath or hot tub. It will warm your muscles and make it easier for the therapist to achieve results. If the hot tub has chlorinated water, be sure and shower before your massage.
* Most massage takes place nude but you are fully draped at all times. If you do not want to remove all your clothing, wear clothing that you will be comfortable wearing during the massage and will allow the massage therapist to touch and move the areas of your body you expect will need to be worked on.
*Good communication is important. Before the session, let your massage therapist know what your needs are. During the massage session, report any discomfort, whether it is from the massage or anything else -- room temperature, music volume, lighting, etc. Feel free to give feedback on the amount of pressure, speed of movement, etc.
*Don’t be afraid to discuss any apprehensions or concerns. Your massage therapist is a professional dedicated to do his or her best to help you feel at ease.
*Some people like to talk during a massage session, while others remain silent. In general the massage therapist will follow your lead.
*Deep breathing helps you relax. People often stop breathing when they feel anxious or a sensitive area is massaged. If this is happening, let yourself breathe.
*Tightening up during the massage is counterproductive. Let your massage therapist know if this happens. They can adjust the massage technique or help you relax.
* If your thoughts race, try to quiet your mind by following the hands of the massage therapist. Focus on how the touch feels.
*If anything happens during the massage that seems improper, ask the massage therapist to stop. You also have the right to end the session.
*If you are dizzy or light headed after the massage, do not get off the table too fast.
*Drink extra water after a massage.

Spa tipping is customary at spas, but how much and how you handle it depends on what kind of spa you're going to. Spa tipping is usually 15-20% of the amount of the spa treatment. For instance, $20 is a good tip for a massage that costs $100 to $120.
Most spas where you spend the night, including resort spas, hotel and destination or health spas, add a spa tip or "service fee" of 18-20% onto the massage or facial, so you don't have to worry about it. However, if you think you received exceptional service, you can give the therapist additional money in the treatment room.
If you offer the therapist money and a tip is already being added to your bill, they should inform you of it before accepting the money. If you didn't know, feel free to keep the money.
Some day spas add a service fee, but many do not. You can either offer it directly to the therapist in cash, or add it to your bill. A few spas leave envelopes in the room to encourage tipping.
There are a few exceptions to the spa tipping 15-20% guideline. Some spas, especially medical spas, don't allow tipping.
If you're getting a bargain price, like $50 from a chain like Massage Envy, you should tip $15 or $20, especially if you like the therapist.
If you're getting a promotional rate like $50 during Spa Week, you should tip on the full value of the service.
There really needs to be gross negligence such as rudeness or sexual advances on the part of the therapist to not tip at all at. Let them know at the front desk what happened, so management can take care of it.
If the person is doing their best, but you just don't like their style, go ahead and tip. Just don't book with them again.

*Don't arrive for a 2 p.m. spa appointment at 2 p.m. Arrive at least 20 minutes early to check in, change and relax, or earlier if you want to enjoy the steambath and sauna.
* Don't spend your spa treatment talking about your problems at work, with your husband, your kids. You're just stressing yourself out.
*Don't work out and then show up for your massage all sweaty. It's not nice for you or the therapist.
* Don't hop into the Jacuzzi and then go straight to your massage or facial. Rinse the chlorine off right away. It's not good for your skin.
*Don't talk on your cell phone in the meditation room (or locker room, or anywhere in the spa.) It disturbs others and keeps you from relaxing.
* Don't treat the staff like they're servants and you're the Queen. You won't get their best work.
* Don't expect miracles. You won't permanently get rid of all your muscle tension in one massage.
* Don't rush off right after your treatment. To get the most out of it, you need time to rest afterwards.
* Don't forget to tip.
